Full Description: Meet Levi! Levi is a gorgeous liver-nosed Labbie meaning he comes from a chocolate and a yellow parent, so he got those beautiful amber eyes and that soft chocolate nose. Levi was surrendered to a local shelter. Levi's story is a common one in Oklahoma. Despite being not even 2 years old, Levi sired two litters of puppies. After deciding puppy raising was too hard and didn't make enough money, their owners decided they had no use for Levi and dumped him at the shelter. Now he is ready for his chance at a new life.
Levi is a typical, happy Labbie (and weighs in only at 60 lbs, so he's the perfect size) and we can't for life of us figure out why anyone would just drop him at the shelter. Levi is very smart and very eager to please and would be the star of any obedience class. Plus look at those eyes, how could anybody say no to this boy!
Update: Levi's personality is very loving and gentle, and he loves to snuggle. He is wonderful in the home environment because he is potty trained and would rather follow you around than be outside. Levi gets along great with big and small dogs and is a very good brother - one of his foster brothers is afraid of fireworks, so on the 4th of July Levi followed him around and would lay next to him comforting him anytime his foster brother was acting anxious or nervous. He is gentle with children and is very relaxed and easy-going. Levi is pretty much the perfect dog!
Levi is quite attached to his canine buddies and needs to go to a forever family with at least one canine sibling. Levi is GREAT with dogs of all sizes and both males and females, so any canine sibling will do. Levi does have separation anxiety - but being with other dogs seems to help and we are working with him to help him over-come his anxiety.
Levi does have a bit of anxiety when left alone outside. Levi is quite trustworthy at night, so crating or sleeping on his very own doggie bed are equally good options. And while Levi is a calm guy, he does love walking, jogging, and swimming, so he'll make the perfect companion for any family!
On August 26th, Levi was rushed into an emergency bowel obstruction surgery. The Dr. had no idea what she would find, as nothing had appeared on any tests she had run, but it was obvious Levi was in danger and needed help fast. What was found was a foreign object completely blocking the small intestines. This object had to be cut out section by section. Surgery was successful but Levi was given about a 30% chance of survival because of the damage that had been done internally.
Levi went to 24 hour round the clock supervision. After 48 hours with little improvement a second surgery was necessary to ensure the viability of his intestine. This surgery revealed some necrotic tissue which was removed, but his intestinal tract was healing. With the efforts of the dr's and second surgery he now has an 80% chance of survival.
Levi is sponsored by: David Norman.
Like all of our Labbies, Levi has been neutered, is up to date on vaccines, and is on monthly heartworm and flea & tick preventative. And we always recommend obedience training to help you and your new Labbie bond and start off on the best foot!
