 Remi

Let me say Remi is a very smart girl.  She has adjusted well to her new surroundings and brought a lot of personality out of Ted we didn't know he had.  Having said that, she is a typical lab and when not exhausted from exercise or discipline, she can get into a bit of "chewing" trouble, but nothing we can't deal with. It reminds us of our black lab Cooper "out of sight, out of mind" (if I'm bored) should be her motto. Her chocolate color is really coming through.  She's looking and behaving like a young lady but always eager to please even if she has something in her mouth, which is all the time if she had her way. Thanks for fostering Remi.

corona_1.jpg

 Corona

This is Corona "Bubba". He has been with us for 2 1/2 weeks. As you can see from the picture, my 4 year old daughter played dress up with him. He is an incredible dog. He loves to sneak onto the couch and sleep at night and wake us up early in the morning by leaping onto the bed with all of his toys in his mouth. He is our baby in such a short time. He loves treats and has learned to shake and lay down. He loves to go for walks and ride in the car with us during errands. We are so lucky to have gotten him!!! Thanks Heartland Lab rescue for everything!!

 trevor_max_1.jpg

 Max (formerly Trevor)

I wanted to let you know I am so happy with my forever family! I was quiet a handful at first, but with alot of love,  patience, and obedience classes (which was a LOT of fun), I am now the great Labbie they knew I would be! I go for long walks and  I ride in the truck with Mom and Dad. They are always up for a good game of fetch or tug-o-war! As you can see I loved the big "white fluffy stuff". Thank you HLR for my second chance!

fletch_1_1.jpg

Fletch

Fletch has been with us now for 3 weeks.  We couldn't have asked for a better, more well behaved dog.  He just loves everyone and everything.  The only problem we have with Fletch is getting him to eat enough!  He would rather be loved than eat.  Fletch is using his leg much more than when we brought him home.  He can even run on it now.  I am sure that if he could he would give a big sloppy kiss to all of the staff at Ranchwood vet hospital for giving him back the use of his leg!  Here is Fletch enjoying his new bed.

seth.jpg

 Seth

Seth is adjusting well no problems what so ever from him. He is a wonderfully mannered dog and completely housebroken. I just cant understand how he could have just wondered away and no body looked for this super little dog. But it was clearly meant to be or we wouldn't have ever had the chance to have him as part of our family. All we can say is that we hope somebody adopts Sam, his brother.  They will be very, very happy. Thank you for allowing us to add Seth to our family

riley_1.jpg

 Riley

Riley's doing great!  She's turned into a real cuddle-bug, and that just makes me so happy. She and Cheyenne are the best of friends.  They do absolutely everything together (except sleep). If Cheyenne is chewing on the nylabone that Riley wants, Riley will sit next to her and bark.  They are buddies and the two of them share all the toys.  Cheyenne can take what Riley has, and vice versa.  And it's ever so gentle. Riley and I have started taking obedience classes. Not that she really needs them, but I want her to get her Canine Good Citizen certificate and then, possibly, therapy dog certificate.  I want her to learn not to jump up on people.  It's also good Mammy-Riley bonding time. So we started out with basic obedience in a class of  about 12 dogs. So things are going very well here. She's stolen our hearts!

bonnie_1.jpg

 Molly (formerly Bonnie)

Molly loves to run and get the stick, chase birds, and roll around in the grass. We spend time each day just her and I and she is becoming a in-bedded member of our family as the children and grandchildren call and ask for her as well. Thank you for selecting us to adopt and add her as a member of our home.

abby_and_gracie.jpg

 Gracie

Just wanted to send our most recent family picture with all are adopted dogs.  Abby (center yellow lab) was adopted in 2000 and Gracie (choc. to her right) Feb. 2008. The two mixed breeds were adopted in 1999 and our most recent lab Barney (the BIG boy on the right) was adopted six weeks ago from a place down near San Marcus.  We live in Dallas, so we can earnestly say we have covered Texas and Oklahoma.
Abby is 9 years old and the vet said the best thing we did for her was adopting Gracie.

switch_and_scooter_1.jpg

 Switch and Scooter

Switch is doing Great. He is so playful that we decided he needed a playmate his size.  About 3 or so days after we got Switch, we turned around and got his brother Scooter.  They do wonderful together. They do everything together. They got fixed on the same day.  Eat, sleep, and play together.  IT IS WONDERFUL. I could gush over these boys all day long.  hey adjusted to each other right away and have been side by side since.  Switch is starting to cuddle all the time. At first we didn't think he was gonna be a cuddler but he came around. Getting both of them was the best thing ever.

vegas3.jpg

 Onyx (formerly Vegas)

“Vegas” is now “Onyx” and he is the perfect dog for us! What a blessing. Onyx and Ruby hit it off their first night together and they are best friends! He is great with our guests and their children. He spends all day playing hard and loves to cuddle up to a good movie at night. He enjoys chewing on his toys and playing tug of war with his sister. He loves walks and is learning to fetch. Right now he has the fetch part down- but is still working on the bring-it-back part! We are so grateful to you for all you did to find him a forever home. We love him so much and could not have asked for a better match!

~The Jensen Family~

  emmy__2.jpg

 Emmy (formerly Janet)

Emmy is such a sweet little girl! She loves playing and hanging out with her big brother Charlie (on the left). Her favorite thing to do it play fetch with her ball. She will take her ball everywhere! Emmy loves making new friends wherever she goes and her all time favorite thing to do is go swimming! Thank you Heartland for letting us adopt her. Our family would not be complete without her!

kahlua.jpg

 Kahlua

Kahlua has come such a long way since we adopted her :)  She just graduated from her 2nd course at K9 university, and has also been enrolled into the next level of training.  She won the award for being the best candidate in our class to become a search and rescue dog.

stanley_1.jpg

 Stanley

We started out as Stanley's foster parents in April of 2009 with the intent to keep him until he found a home.....then he ended up capturing our hearts and we decided to adopt him in January of this year. He was such an anxious dog when we got him that he paced the floor the first few days we had him.  Once he settled in and realized we weren't going to hurt him and that we took pretty good care of him, he's become a wonderful addition to our pet-family. Our dog, Ace, a 7 year old black Lab, plays with him really well. He's also helped Ace to get up off the couch and run around more, and he's lost some weight - which he needed to do at 115 pounds!  We're so happy to have Stanley and know he'll keep us laughing with his goofy personality for many years to come!  Thanks Heartland!

ted_1.jpg

 Ted

Can you believe one year ago today Ted came to our house!:)  He is doing well adjusting to our new home.  In fact, just in the last three weeks (after living here for 3 months) he decided it was OK to go see the West half of the house!  He usually avoided these rooms at all cost. An experiment or two later, Ted joyfully romps back to the workout room where I've been working on my New Year's resolution and stands on the treadmill ready for his walk. Since the weather has been so cold, he's missed his outdoor walks a lot. So, he's been walking on the treadmill and this week he made it 10 min. at 1.5 without a leash! (I still stand next to him and gently hold his collar, just in case). He wags his tail and is excited to get his treat after. He leaves the room while I'm on the treadmill, checking in occasionally, and as soon as I turn the treadmill off, he's back in the room on the floor with me doing stretches.

bella_1_1.jpg

 Bella

This was our first Christmas with Bella after rescueing her this summer.  She has been such a wonderful addition to our family.  Her personality has really come out as she continues to feel like she is part of the family.  We weren't sure at first on adopting a big black lab with our lifestyle, but she has been a true blessing and fits in quite well.  She walks us every day and makes sure we get plenty of loving.  We no longer need an alarm clock as she gets up and with her interesting noises, we know it is time to start the day.

boudreaux_1.jpg

 Bourdeaux ( formerly Christmas)

This is Boudreaux (formaly know as Christmas).  He is growing so much. It seems like he grows by the hour. We love everything about him! Especially that precious little face. It gets us everytime.

daisy.jpg

  Daisy

My husband and I adopted Daisy (formerly Crissy) just before we got married. She was so shy and scared when we adopted her that she wouldn’t even stay in the same room as us. Also, the concept of “fetch” was completely lost on her! Now a year and a half later, we have no doubt that she is the perfect dog for us. She is absolutely NOT scared of us anymore… in fact, I am positive that she knows that she has us wrapped around her little paw! And, wouldn’t you know it, fetch has become her favorite game.  She demands to play at least twice a day and we, of course, give in and play!  We are so thankful to Heartland for rescuing Daisy.  Our family would not be complete without her.

  toby.jpg

 Toby (formerly Gunner)

Hello, I just wanted to send some pics of Toby(formerly Gunner), who we adopted last year.  He is very energetic, playful, and loves to cuddle.  He loves to swim, chase squirrels, and hes very fond of snow.  He also thinks hes a lap dog, he always want to be as close as possible to you.  He has brought us a lot of happiness and I thank you for letting us adopt such a wonderful pet!

holly_1.jpg

 Holly

My name is Holly.  On March 31, 2009, I was adopted by Glen,Kelli, Alanah and Donovan.  Actually, I was Donovan's present for his 9th birthday. I'm a great girl!  I have made many new friends. I love playing fetch in the backyard and taking walks on the trails in my neighborhood. I love playing with my wooly sheep and ram. For my first birthday they bought me a wooly squid and chewy meat toy. Delicious!  One of my best characteristics is that I love to snuggle. Donovan and Alanah think I'm part Kangaroo! I love to jump over the couch and onto the patio table after a great run.  Today I chased my first squirrel! What a rush! I miss the squirrel.

cody_1.jpg

 Cody (formerly Judd)

Cody (formerly Judd) joined our family the first of June as our foster dog. He was such a great dog with so much personality we decided he needed to be part of our family. We adopted him September 2009. I would encourage anyone that is thinking about adopting to consider fostering.  We fostered 8
labs and loved every one of them. Each dog had their own personality and quirks.  Sure, it is hard not getting attached but it's so great when your foster finds his forever home.  It feels good that you are able to greatly impact an animals life.  Please consider fostering so many more labs like
Cody can be rescued and find loving homes.

 bubba_1.jpg

 Bubba

Bubba is doing just great! He's pretty happy with all the action in our house with the kids. He loves our backyard and often lays out there while we are home. We have a few bad habits to stop such as taking food off the table-- he's just big enough to do that! But he's a joy and we are happy to have him with us. He just passed his level 2 in obedience training. Bubba is at least 140 lbs, as of the last time we had him weighed about 2 months ago! Everywhere we go, every walk I talk him on, we get comments on how beautiful he is. He's really striking and very large! I am so happy with our choice to adopt him and thank you again for your wonderful program.

 lola1.JPG

 Lola

We just wanted to update you on our Lola.  When we adopted her we didn't have any children and she was our baby so I was a little nervous when our son was born, but Lola has been so great with him.  She loves her little brother and will come get me when he cries because she hates for him to be upset.  She is a major part of our family and we love her so much. Thank you heartland for giving us such a joy.

anna_grace__aka_fannie_1.jpg

Anna (formerly Fannie Mae)

I am adjusting well to my forever home. I want for nothing and I love my
adoptive parents and it is quite apparent that they also are pretty crazy about me. I remain a daddy's girl and love, love, love Jackson! He thinks I'm pretty neat too, but sometimes he tries to act cool and aloof to my affections. He is quite the momma's boy so it all works out. Overall, I'm happy. I'm always inside during cold weather and mom runs home several times a day to give Jackson and me potty breaks (and treats). We go for daily walks and the food is good. Maybe too good as I have put on a few pounds. I love snuggling with Dad at night and I sleep on a Coleman cot with lots of blankets. It reallly belongs to the grandson, but I have taken it over as MY bed. I share it with Jordan when he is here, but I don't give it up! I think of you and the friends I left behind often, and am so grateful for the care and love you have shown me. I love you too. I pray for more people like you, so more labbie kids like me can find refuge and love in a happy forever home.

 r and r 1_1.jpg

r_and_r_2.jpg

 Richie and Rocco

They are both doing really well and Rocco is now taller than Richie, by quite a bit! Richie does really well with the four of us and is VERY fond of sleeping at the end of Ben's (our youngest) bed since it is chillier at night now.  Ben loves it, too.  Rocco stretches out on the floor next to the boys and to our knowledge, has not peed anywhere in the house during the nights that we have tried this. :) We recently had snow, like you probably, and they had a ball running through the drifts and pulling a sled with the boys in it down the street and across yards.

 sophie_1.jpg

 Sophie

Just wanted to give you an update on Sophie.  We've only had her 2.5weeks, but she is already one of the family, and fits in just great!  We just could not have asked for a better dog and feel so lucky to have found her!  She is wonderful with our 1 and 3 year old boys and wants to be right in the thick of things all the time. She'll give you kisses non-stop if you let her. She is great about letting us know when she needs to go outside, sleeps well in her crate all night, is a great rider in the car, and is learning how to walk on a leash. We are training her to have a few more manners, but she is a super dog who just loves to be loved. She is definitely a cuddle-bug and is not ashamed to soak it up from whomever will dish it out! We discovered she loves the snow, and has been out in it with us, every time we've gone. She even went sledding!  She is such a blessing. She really was tailor-made for our family. Thanks for saving this pup for us!
